Piercing Prep & Aftercare | Safe Voyage Tattoo
At Safe Voyage Tattoo, your safety and comfort are our top priorities. Whether it’s your first piercing or your tenth, we’re here to make sure you feel informed, confident, and taken care of from start to finish. Here’s everything you need to know before, during, and after your piercing appointment.
Before Your Piercing
1. Eat Ahead of Time
Be sure to have a good meal beforehand. A full stomach helps keep your blood sugar steady and reduces the chances of feeling faint.
2. Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water leading up to your appointment. Hydrated skin and tissue respond better to piercing and healing.
3. Avoid Alcohol, Caffeine & Blood Thinners
Skip alcohol for at least 24 hours and avoid caffeine the day of your appointment—both can increase sensitivity and bleeding.
4. Arrive Clean
Shower before your appointment and come in with clean, product-free skin around the area to be pierced.
5. Be Honest About Health Conditions
Let your piercer know about any medical conditions, allergies, or medications you’re taking. This helps us keep you safe.
6. Bring ID
Minors must have a parent or legal guardian present with valid ID and proof of guardianship.
During Your Piercing
1. Ask Questions
We’re here to walk you through every step. Don’t hesitate to ask about the procedure, jewelry, or aftercare.
2. Stay Still & Breathe
Follow your piercer’s lead. Staying relaxed and breathing deeply helps ease discomfort and ensures a smooth process.
3. Trust Your Piercer
Our piercers are trained professionals using sterile, high-quality equipment. You’re in good hands.
Piercing Aftercare
Proper care is key to preventing infection and ensuring a successful heal. Here’s a general guide (custom instructions may vary by piercing type):
1. Clean Gently Twice a Day
Use a sterile saline solution or the aftercare spray recommended by your piercer. Spray or soak the area, then let it air dry. No alcohol or hydrogen peroxide—they’re too harsh.
2. Hands Off
Avoid touching your piercing unless you’ve washed your hands thoroughly. Don’t twist, rotate, or move the jewelry unnecessarily.
3. No Submersion
Avoid pools, hot tubs, lakes, and baths during the healing process to prevent bacteria from entering the piercing site.
4. Be Mindful of Clothing & Hair
Avoid tight clothing or accessories that might rub the area. Keep hair and products away from healing facial or ear piercings.
5. Sleep Smart
Try not to sleep directly on new piercings. Use a travel pillow or change sleeping positions as needed to protect the site.
6. Watch for Signs
Redness, swelling, and tenderness are normal early on. If you notice excessive pain, heat, yellow/green discharge, or anything concerning, reach out—we’re happy to help.
Healing times vary depending on the location of the piercing, but patience is key. We’re always here to answer questions and guide you through the process.
